Whataburger

October 21, 2012

I sat in the driver’s side of my little cheaply engineered bright blue car. Hands on the wheel and eyes staring into the red of the stoplight. The only noise I heard was the back and forth CLICKclick CLICKclick of my left turn indicator.

My heartbeat was gentle and steady as there was no anger inside… simply sadness. Drooping face and numb fingers, I felt lost in a void of emotions that I may never understand.

I turn left following the path of the car in front of me knowing I was in no state to navigate familiar roads.

No music was playing, there was no radio DJ in the background, just the sound of the road. And I began to cry. Just a tear or two nothing extravagant or anything too emotional. Just a simple tear or two was shed for the situation. I was sad. A feeling or stage I often skipped.

I sped up as I merged on the highway and flew down the road until I came upon the turn to park my car and reenter the big world; the one that exists out of the vacuum of my car.

I was lost and confused in that big world. The big world in which people don’t think twice about anything but themselves and don’t bother being respectful or kind or fair. A world in which a happy person like me, ends up being sad in the driver’s seat of a little cheaply engineered bright blue car.

But on the bright side, the big world does have a Whataburger that simply happens to be the world’s best counselor.
