love and a little bit of faith

Everyone always says that when you’ve found the person you are meant to spend the rest of your life with, you will just know.

But that’s the real question, how do you just know?

If this is your soul mate, if you are meant to be with this person for the rest of your life and be creepily buried right next to each other to rot together for eternity, how do you just know it’s them?

Do you know the second you see them? The second you first make eye contact, you just know that’s the person? Does a little light switch flip on saying “oh, yep, that’s the one, right there. Done.”

Or does it take time? Do you have to spend time with someone and get to know them before you begin to realize the inevitable fate between the two of you?

A person can love so many people throughout his/her life. So what is it about this person that you some how know sets them apart from all the rest?

How do you know that five years down the road, you will still love each other? Thinking that person is the one right now, doesn’t guarantee that they will be the one if five years. Friends come and go all the time. Lovers come and go daily. So how are you supposed to trust that this person won’t just come and go?

So many people have the conviction that you are meant to be with one person, and some driving force in the universe beams through space and time just to give you a little thump in your heart to indicate that person is the one.

But what if that driving force lies? What if “the one” really isn’t the one? But just a temporary one until the “real one” comes along.

How does one person, see another and simply know without a doubt and with all the confidence in the world, that person is the one? How does one human who probably doesn’t know how to change the oil in the car, posses the knowledge to say “that person, is the one.”

How will I know?
